(Rotarians Eliminating Malaria in Tanzania)

Masta Faraji a member of the Rotary Club of Arusha, who is studying in Southampton and attending Magna RC, addressed the club on his experience of Malaria in Tanzania

A cheque for £2131 has been sent to RIBI for this programme. The programme provides chemically impregnated nets, insecticides and medicines as well as HaemaCue machines to check for anemia. Funding will be provided for education and awareness by training local workers who will go into the villages to educate locals in the symptoms, treatments and prevention. The first training session took place in August 2003 in a village community centre at Maji Ya Chai, near Arusha

Malaria is one of the biggest killers in the world today. At least 300 million people contract malaria every year, of whom over a million children will die and approximately 90% of these deaths will be in Africa.
