Issue 3  ...... still going...
Our favourite charity do on Friday 11th November at Stoneham Golf Club is fast approaching.  Tickets for the Wine Tasting are now on sale.  Circulate information to potential new members and your friends.

Haskins' new restuarant is now open and they will be ready for "Rotary @ Haskins" on Wednesday 23rd November.

Speaker Seeker…aka BTK
Unfortunately, NASA were unable to send Commander Chris Ferguson to talk to us about the last Shuttle flight to the International Space Station on 13 October.  They did, however come up with some wonderful "imagery" - video to us - to celebrate the completion of thirty years of Shuttle missions.  There have been 135 missions in total, Atlantis being the last.  Launched on 8th July 2011 from Florida Space Coast in front of nearly a million spectators and many millions worldwide, the US now has to rely on Russia to supply the means of keeping the ISS supplied with crew, victuals and equipment.  Read in the MagnaDiary to see when this video will be shown.

Wine Tasting - 11th November. Tickets are now available to hand out to possible invitees.

Rotary @ Haskins - 23rd November.  Building site receding, garden centre and restaurant reappearing.  Looking pretty good so far.

Shoeboxes - As the Ash & Holly berries turn red, the robin song changes, and the dew on spider webs are a spectacle to see, we acknowledge that Autumn is almost with us.  So too Christmas is just around the corner, and no doubt Santa is busy with his elves at the North Pole, making & wrapping presents for your children, sorry, grandchildren!!!

With these images in mind, we at Southampton Magna must think about wrapping those shoe boxes and placing inside the small items such as pencils, tooth brush, toys etc, the kids here in the UK take for granted.

We plan to collect boxes that the schools have made up from 10th October before the half term break at 21st October, check their contents, and then begin to box them into the age groups.  Manpower for this exercise we envisage requiring up to 4 people over a 3-day period, so volunteers required please.

On 5th November we plan to deliver the boxes of boxes to the central depot and will require six members to load our contribution.

Thanks again to all those who are assembling a box or two, especially those for whom this year might be their first.  Oh, and by the way, we would also like a pound coin for each box to go towards the transportation costs.

Thanks fella’s and ladies involved.   JB & WR

Presidents Evening -  18th - 21st May. An itinerary has been circulated by email with regards to the Presidents Evening in Normandy.   Bill Edwardes is organising and will post more details soon.

Up Close And Personal

“An unlikely elderly group
would have found itself in the soup,
But their leader named Barrett
used a stick or a carrot
And kept them all in the loop”

David Barrett has more walks to organise in the coming year.

Monday, 31st October – Charity Event – A Night with the Chefs.  James Lapage has asked me to let you know about this event, which is to be held in the National Motor Museum Trust Centre Theatre at Beaulieu.  It’s an evening of fun and entertainment with some of the New Forest’s top chefs.  Tickets are £10 and the evening starts at 7 pm.

The Magnalink is aimed at informing Magna members and their partners of forthcoming events. When finished with the Magnalink, please pass it on to non members with a view to letting them know what Magna (and Rotary) is all about.
