The 16th Run had an amazing 82 entries which is a dozen or so more than any Run to date.  Unfortunately, there were also a large number of "no-shows", so we were only 67 on the day, which didn't break any records.   The weather was dry, but with a very chilly wind although this didn't stop everyone from enjoying their day out.

No-one got lost - at least no-one who admitted it anyway, and the marshals kept order at the stops on the way round.  The cream teas provided as usual by Magna Ladies were very welcome and the organiser's heartfelt thanks go to them and especially to Jill (and Lawrie) Smith for allowing the use of their home for the tea and prize-giving.

At the Magna meeting on 12th August, a cheque for £2,600 will be presented to JDRF's representative, Nicole Gerrard, who braved the chill winds of Paulton's Park over the lunch stop to talk to those taking part.

Thank you to everyone who took part and we hope to see you all again.......

NEXT YEAR

The 17th Run will take place on the 15th May 2011, which is the weekend of the Beaulieu Autojumble. This means that, for those who wish, the two events can be fitted into one weekend!   We hope that this will suit our continental friends and that they will be able to join us, ferry timetables permitting.

The brochure with full details and the entry form, both in PDF format, will be available here by Christmas.   The main mailshot will be posted in mid-March.

The Charity

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
JDRF is the only organisation in the world whose primary objective is to find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition which has a life-long impact on those diagnosed and their families.   It normally strikes children and stays with them for the rest of their lives.
Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition and is not caused by eating the wrong foods or by anything the child or parents did or did not do. People with type 1 diabetes rely on multiple finger prick blood tests and insulin injections every day just to stay alive - until we find the cure.

The condition affects about 350,000 people in the UK, 25,000 of them children. The South Coast of England has one of the highest rates of type 1 diabetes in the UK.
For almost 40 years JDRF has been fundamentally involved in the delivery of advances in this field; seeking out, assessing and monitoring the best science to drive the breakthrough and improve the management of type 1 diabetes and we will ultimately cure the condition.

The Sponsor

Paultons, the Family Theme Park
Paultons, the Family Theme Park, has been a firm family favourite for many years.  With attractions ranging from exciting rides, such as the Cobra and Edge, to delightful gardens, birds and animals, all set in 140 acres of beautiful parkland on the edge of the New Forest National Park, there?s something for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents.

The Park boasts an extensive collection of exotic birds and animals, which includes emus, meerkats, wallabies and giant tortoises, not forgetting the penguins who keep guests entertained in their spectacular pool with an underwater viewing area and keeper talks twice a day.

To mark the Park's 25th anniversary in 2008, a fascinating Floating Globe was installed in the entrance plaza. Made of solid granite, the 6.5 tonne globe is the largest of its type in the UK, yet it "floats" on jets of water and can be turned with the touch of a finger!

Each year since 1994 Paultons has played host to the annual Rotary "Kids Out", a National Event when children with special needs are given the time of their lives by Rotarians. We are pleased to say that we are looking forward to welcoming them again in 2010 for their 17th annual visit!
