15th New Forest International Charity Car Run

The Run this year had 64 entries (and 59 turned up on the day).  The weather was sunny and dry at the start at the Sir Walter Tyrell pub and got slowly warmer as the day wore on - no rain again, fortunately!  There were plenty of bacon sandwiches this year which ensured that the run got off to a good start.  The charity and the sponsor made us all very welcome at the coffee and lunch stops.  At the coffee stop at the Wildlife Trust's centre at Testwood Lakes, we managed to squeeze all the cars into the car park (except for the Vintage Tyres vintage van, which was only just too high for the barrier).  The wardens and their helpers  plied us with coffee and biscuits and lots of information about their work.

Thanks must go especially to the members of Magna and their wives, without whom the Run would not function on the day.  They marshalled, made tea and prepared scones  - and the men did quite a bit too!  We managed to raise £2,500, which will enable the Trust to make some improvements to the educational facilities at Testwood Lakes.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Our wildlife reserves are some of the best places to see wildlife.  Covering a wide range of habitats such as chalk grassland, woodland, wetlands and coastal areas, they are wildlife hotspots that we manage in ways that ensure many rare and threatened species can survive.

But to achieve our vision of wildlife-rich living landscapes and living seas we often work in partnership with others, sometimes to manage their land.  These conservation projects also provide many benefits for local people.  Current projects include the Loddon & Eversley Heritage Project, the Itchen Navigation Heritage Trail Project and the Grazing Project.

Testwood Lakes is a 150 acre site owned by Southern Water and managed by the Trust.  The reserve is an assortment of grassland, wet woodland, hedgerow and lake environments.
